William Wood

William Wood was a member of the NSW Royal Veterans Corps, an old veteran of the Battle of Waterloo. When it was disbanded, soldiers were given the opportunity to stay in NSW and become small farmers, and with 7 others, received a land grant of 80 acres at Bong Bong in 1829. They were called Veterans’ Allotments, the 8 farms ran along Eridge Park Road from the Wingecarribee River to Kangaloon Road. They were given land, a small hut, set of farm tools, and if married, a milking cow. He died in 1854 and many of his descendants often visit this church for an anniversary.
